LELOUP Louis (born 1929), composition, multilayer glass, signed, 1999, 42X29X8
Louis Leloup was only 17 years old when he joined the Cristalleries du Val-Saint-Lambert as an apprentice glassmaker in 1947. In one of the most important industries in the Liège region, he was soon noticed by the Master Glassmaker Fernand Menegaz. He then produced his first works for the 1958 Brussels Universal Exhibition. In 1965, he created "La Madone de la Reine", a small crystal virgin during Queen Fabiola's visit to the Liège region. International recognition was consecrated in 1997 in the city of Kyoto, with the creation of a museum on three floors. It presented Pope John Paul II with his "Madonna of Light".
