This carved wooden element was part of the ceremonial costume of a Kachina dancer. A similar element must have been a counterpart on the other side of the mask.
The symbols depicted include the figure of an ear of corn, a rain-soaked cloud, and a red serpentine motif reminiscent of the shape of a lightning bolt.
