A pair of Louis XVI style gilt-bronze and burr gueridons, after a model by Adam Weisweiler These pedestal tables, with bamboo-simulating uprights representing the exotic taste that was fashionable under Louis XVI, are directly inspired by the work of Adam Weisweiler. A preparatory drawing of this model illustrating a pedestal table for the Russian ambassador in Naples is kept in the Musée des Art Décoratifs (cfr. P. Lemonnier, "Weisweiler", Paris, 1983, p.90) and could be the work of the merchant Dominique Daguerre. Other known examples of this model being stamped by Weisweiler, we can assume that this model was exclusively designed by Weisweiler. and sold by Daguerre. Indeed, Adam Weisweiler made different variations, some with a Wedgwood porcelain top, others in lapis lazuli, marble or even lacquer. The model was a great success and was still produced in the 19th century. It was then taken up again throughout the century by the best cabinetmakers of the time, such as Dasson or Beurdeley, to finally arrive at the more recent models produced during the 20th century.
