French school of the end of the 17th century Head of Venus of the Capitol White marble H . 50 cm of which white marble pedestal : 13 cm Restoration to the nose The Venus of the Capitol discovered in the 1670s was given to the French in 1797 and arrived in Paris with the triumphal Procession of July 1798. Restored to Italy in 1815, it was returned to the Capitoline Museum, whose title it bears.
