LILLE (NORTH). 1687. BEAVER HATS, VICUNA & OTTERS. "We Reward, Mayeur, Echevins, Council of Eight Men of the City of LILLE, We being made to represent our Political Ordinance of the 22nd April last concerning the conservation of the Manufacture of Hats which are made in this city,...we declare that under the words of Common Hats we have heard all hats of the value of 40 Patars a piece which are 10 Patagons a dozen & below, letting the others pass which will be of higher price for fine hats... Desiring to clarify article 19 of the Corps & Métier des CHAPELIERS... it is not forbidden to bring in or cut out Chapeaux de Castor, Demy Castor, Vigogne, Demy Vigogne, Otters & other fine hats from outside, observing the prescription of our ordinance...
