PARIS. 1686. PILGRIMAGES. "Declaration by the King, in defence of Pilgrimages without permission from the King & Bishops.". Given at VERSAILLES on 7 January 1686. Registered in the Parliament of PARIS on 12 January 1686 "under the pretext of devotion & pilgrimage (to St Jacques in Galicia, Notre-Dame de Lorette & other holy places.), several of our subjects had left their parents against their will, left their wives and children without any help, stolen their masters, & abandoned their apprenticeships to spend their lives in a continual debauchery".
