Greek, Hellenistic 3rd-2nd cent. B.C.. Terracotta. H. 4.8 cm. W. 3 cm Head of a bearded man with grotesque features. A pronounced bulge at the forehead and broad eyebrows. Broad, knobbly nose. Sagging cheeks. Hair only modelled around the face. Back mostly smoothed. Probably from a statuette. Possibly Hercules. Condition: Large areas of pink to red paint preserved; the white ground is partially visible. Formerly Coll. Prof. Hans Dahn (1919-2019), Lausanne; acquired 20.11.1953 from Donati in Basel.
