Attic ca. 470-460 B.C..
Clay. W. 14,5 cm
On this fragment, from the shoulder of a small column-krater with unframed pictures, the upper part is preserved of Nike in flight to right, her large wings spread out behind her. She bears offerings: in the palm of her left hand, she proffers a phiale laden with fruit; in her right, she holds a wine vessel (oinochoe) by its handle. The figure to whom she pays tribute, or with whom she interacts, would have adorned the krater's other side. Added white for part of phiale's contents. Condition: Surfaces well preserved; good black glaze. Glazed inside, save for shoulder. Reassembled from three fragments; breaks retouched.
Formerly Coll. Rolf Blatter, Berne. Previously Coll. S.C., Basle, early 1970's.
