Etruscan ca. 510-500 B.C.. Clay. H. 31.2 cm A charming imitation of the Attic style, both in shape and decoration. Each side is decorated by a pair of dancing satyrs and maenads. Subsidiary non-figural decoration is exuberant if not refined. Lugs of black-slipped clay applied to either side of the handles. Condition: One handle reattached. Reassembled from fragments, with some lacunae having been restored with stucco. Formerly priv. coll. E.W., Riehen acquired in the 1970's.
