Greek (Attic) ca. 540-520 B.C..
Clay. H. 8.1 cm. Diam. 13.8 cm (excluding handles).
A deep cup on a ring foot. Both sides decorated with a quadriga driven by two draped figures, each with a krobylos hairstyle, likely indicating the divine twins Artemis and Apollo. This identification is heightened by the presence of a large, schematic kithara held by the leading figure. Palmettes to either side of the handles. Condition: Handles reattached. Body reassembled from fragments, with damage limited to one side where the rim has been partially retouched.
Formerly priv. coll. E.W., Riehen acquired in the 1970's.
