"This is certainly the most beautiful Christ on the cross of this format. The brushstrokes and impasto are visible and show the influence of Van Dyck. The number of copies of this composition implies the existence of a famous and admired model. It is probably the Crucifix cited by several 18th century guides that adorned the bottom of the refectory of the Augustinian convent church, Place des Victoires in Paris".
