SIX FABRICS AND SOFA LIVING ROOM Paris, Louis XV period Moulded and sculpted beechwood, cream-coloured rechampi, tapestries in stitch Stamp: J.B. BOULARD Sofa: H. 106 cm, W. 185 cm, D. 56 cm Armchairs: H. 95 cm, W. 69 cm, D. 56 cm Our living room is composed of a suite of six armchairs à la Reine and a triple evolution sofa. The mouldings and sculptures are decorated with fl eurettes, foliage and acanthus leaves. The arms and supports are curved and ribbed with a slight curl. The belt is fretworked with fl eurettes, foliage and foliage scraps, the feet are arched and ribbed with a clasping hoof. Jean-Baptiste Boulard began his career with the Louis XV style, but later adopted the Louis XVI aesthetic. From 1777 onwards, he received orders for the Crown's furniture repository, before being discarded at Sené's behest. His Louis XV chairs have a very nervous moulding but a relatively discreet sculpture that can be found in our copy as well as in an armchair model very close to the Michel Meyer collection (fi g. 1). Under Louis XVI, it met with great success and provided numerous seats for royal residences. Alongside ceremonial models, Jean-Baptiste Boulard also made seats, characterised by a very beautiful moulding but a very sober sculpture, for a more modest clientele. The whole is covered with tapestries in point which have kept their splendid colours. They represent genre scenes in the Baroque and Renaissance style, as well as several floral and vegetal themes.
