BUFFET BASEMENT Oak, red marble H. 93 cm, W. 127 cm, D. 55 cm This single leaf low sideboard is decorated on the front and on the sides with crossbars between which are stylized flowers. The vertical momentum of the flanks, recessed with three flutes and adorned with fleurons, echoes the horizontality of the frieze of blind arcatures on the surround. The sideboard was truly born in the 16th century, emerging at a time when the fashion for the chest was beginning to run out of steam. Although it is most often made up of two bodies, the 18th century saw a simplification of the sideboard with the appearance of the low sideboard, some models of which are decorated with a marble on which it is possible to place dishes.
