CONSOLE Painted oak, red marble with white veins
H. 85 cm, W. 177 cm, D. 84 cm Restored
marble This rectangular shaped console rests on four double legs in a sheath with vegetal decoration and gadroons joined by a slightly animated spacer decorated with acanthus leaves. The belt deploys a vocabulary of stylized volutes and supports a marble top with a corbin beak.
Because of its unusual architecture, this console probably dates from the early 18th century and belongs to a type of furniture that the Sun King particularly liked since he acquired a pair that can be found today in the central body of the Palace of
Versailles (fig. 1).
