oil on wood, 32x43 cm, Around 1555, the Mannerist painter Marcello Venusti, inspired by a drawing by Michelangelo, executed an "Annunciation" for the Old Sacristy of the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano in Rome, the origin of numerous autograph and workshop copies. Michelangelo's graphic design, mentioned by the father of the Lives Giorgio Vasari, has been identified by scholars, in the face of a controversial debate, in the paper today at the Drawings and Prints Cabinet of the Florentine Galleries. The work is accompanied by the expertise of Prof. Mario Bucci.
