ƒ CEREMONIAL NUU-CHAH-NULTH HAT CEREMONIAL HAT BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA Diameter: 33 cm. (13 in.) US$2,200-3,200 PROVENANCE Michael D. Kokin, Sherwoods Spirit of America, Santa Fe, New Mexico James and Marilynn Alsdorf Collection, Chicago, acquired from the latter on 19 August 2000 Cf. The Vancouver Museum holds several similar specimens. They all share this singular bell shape and the braided top of four crossed bands of fbres. The latter are attributed to the Nuxalkmc for inv. no. AA 1895 and 1896, and to the Nuu-chah-nulth, especially inv. no. AA 543, which comes closest to our copy because of the visible motifs and the colours used. To bid, please see the "Sales Information" section.
