Etching. 1922. 26,5 : 20,8 cm (45,5 : 35,8 cm). Signed and dated.
On vellum. - The fifth portrait etched by Meidner of the actor Eugen Klöpfer (1886-1950), who at that time played under Max Reinhardt at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin. Three of a total of seven portraits show him as a figure in a Molière performance. "Together with Werner Krauss, Emil Jannings and Heinrich George Klöpfer belonged to the most important character actors of the German stage in the 20's and 30's. [...] In 1936 he became general director of the Berliner Volksbühne. His repertoire included concessions to National Socialist cultural propaganda." (NDB). As a convinced party member he took part in the anti-Semitic feature film "Jud Süß" by Veit Harlan.
Inscribed with life data in the lower margin.
