ROYAL COMMODITY OF THE CASTLE OF THE MUETTE In rosewood veneer, with three drawers arranged in two rows and four high arched legs. Ornamented with chiselled and gilded bronzes, original olive handles. Stamped M.CRIARD, with the stamp of the Parisian Jurande. Large inventory mark on the back of the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne: "du N° 1938/3". Louis XV period. H. 85 cm - Width 119 cm - Depth 63 cm. Antique marble top, but brought back, small accidents, some rework on the veneer and wear on the gilding. This chest of drawers by Antoine-Mathieu Criaerd is one of the three chests of drawers - ours numbered 3 - delivered on June 28, 1754 by the cabinetmaker Joubert to the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne, and intended for the new royal castle of La Muette that Louis XV had just built. Antoine-Mathieu Criaerd (1724-1787), received master cabinetmaker in Paris in 1747, son of Mathieu Criaerd. He stamped "M.CRIARD". He married in 1748 with Marie Suzanne Chevallier, daughter of the cabinetmaker Jean Mathieu Chevallier. In 1777, his workshop had no less than six workbenches. Master's thesis at the University of Paris IV, 1987. The Journal du Garde-Meuble de la Couronne (O1 3316) mentions for the inventory number 1938: "From June 28, 1754. Delivered by the S. Joubert cabinetmaker. To be used in the new apartments of the Château de la Muette. Three chests of drawers made of rosewood with veneers, and top of marble from Flanders, with three drawers in front, one large and two small lockable, with lock entries, olive knobs and copper ornaments in gold color, length 4 feet 2 inches by 2 feet deep, and 32 inches high".
