This elephant, centerpiece, echoes the one designed by the Maison Baccarat for the 1878 World's Fair at the Palais du Trocadéro. Later, in 1920, the maharajah of Baroda ordered the Elbeuf service for the tables of his Indian palaces as well as a replica of this elephant. A similar model in transparent crystal and serving as a liqueur cellar is kept in the Parisian Hotel du Crillon.
