Roger FAVIN (1904-1990), Portrait of an African woman "Mangbetu".
Terracotta, brown patina. Signed. Edition. Resting on a wooden pedestal.Height. 28 cm. Roger Favin made some magnificent portraits of "Mangbetu" women. (inhabitants of the north-eastern region of Zaire, particularly renowned for their art of building and their skill in forging). From the 1920s, Roger Favin, sculptor and painter, frequents the Montmartre mound, then exhibits from 1929 in the great annual exhibitions, and in particular, at the salon of the national society of female busts. Through his travels in Europe, Africa and then Asia, he will give an account of feminine beauty through materials as diverse as wood, sandstone and glazed earthenware.
