A collection of various stories about situations in all regions and countries, containing three parts of the world. Paris, rue Sainct Iacques, under the sign of the Elephant, (Jehan Ruelle), 1543. In-16 of (29) ff., ff. numbered 1 to 363 (the numbering changes without missing from f. 291 to f. 310), contemporary tawny calf binding, double framed with cold cloth on the covers, with gilt corner fl eurons and fl eur de lys in the centre, spine with decorated nerves. One of the many editions of the French translation of the Omnium Gentium by the German humanist Boemus, an important and rare geographical compilation including a description of Africa, Asia and Europe. This picturesque collection, widely used by the great geographers, notably Sebastien Münster, is one of the first to contain a description of the customs of the inhabitants. The book has been restored and the guards have been renewed. Atkinson, 67.
