Very fine signed Silk HEREKE (Asia Minor, Turkey), circa 1965,Prayer
rug A romantic old gold pastel field serves as a support for the door of a Moghol-inspired mihrab. Delicate foliage with bluish and pink flowers decorate this prayer rug. Ivory and ruby Tchis (clouds) brighten up the ornamentation. The vaults of the mihrab support two flowered vases, or flower stems that serve as a perch for volatile graces. Two ivory counter-edges with a succession of polychrome flowers and chis frame the main ruby border, which is decorated with negative floral medallions and oblong ivory cartouches with Abjad script. Signature in the upper right-hand corner in a small cartouche.
