Elegant Silk TABRIZ (northern Persia), circa 1870. Prayer-shaped
carpet A chestnut field, with a triple ogive, hosts four small columns with capitals, supporting a double vault, with sky and cream arabesques, decorated with polychrome corollas. A symbolic plant hangs from the vault, hanging from a basin from which a stylised plant formation is extracted. Two marine counterborders with interlacing flowering stems frame the main ivory border, following wavy polychrome vegetal foliage. Outer border with chess pawns and brick braid. Beautiful contrasting ensemble, reminiscent of archaic church carpets.

characteristics: Velvet, warp, weft and silk fringes. Qq natural oxidation. Beautiful polychromy.
