Important Carpet from the SAVONNERIE (France), 18th century
A tobacco field, highlighted with laurel branches, hosts a fantastic floral rosette, composed of a crown of old gold fruit on an ivory background, a braid of polychrome flowers on a pistachio background and a star-shaped corolla with copper highlights on an ivory background. The ensemble is surrounded by a wreath of flowers braided in the antique style, enriched at the cardinal points with plant compositions in volutes. Each corner is decorated with a vase of country flowers placed on a pedestal in acanthus swirls. The emerald green frame is decorated with copper-coloured vegetal trimmings, mainly made of interlacing acanthus leaves and laurel leaves. Flowering roses in the corners. Real and magnificent directoire-style soap carpet.
600 x 585cm
Technical characteristics: Wool velvet on wool foundations (typical of the 17 and 18 th century carpets), with natural oxidation and wear. Maintenance restorations
