Exceptional, rare and fine silk HERIZ (northwestern Persia), circa 1870. An ivory field with delicate polychrome floral scrolls hosts an oblong brick background, itself the support of a cream polylobate medallion. Various foliage and foliage branches enrich the decoration. Six floral garlanded counter-borders frame the main one with multicoloured flower corollas. The seven borders symbolize the seven steps leading to paradise. 201 x 138cm Technical characteristics: Velvet, warp, weft and silk fringes. Density: Approx. 10.000 knots per dm2 Qq, natural oxidation. Remarkable freshness of colours. Collector 's item Bibliography: - Andrew MIDDLETON's world tour of carpets page 78
