The story of a gouache made for La Fontaine's Fables. He received the letter from his correspondent on his return from America. "I am happy that you possess a work of mine. I believe it must be the original of a gouache I made in his time, for Ambroise
VOLLARD, for the Fables de La Fontaine. But as it was not possible to reproduce this gouache in colour, I decided then to make the Fables de La Fontaine in black and white. I don't think I made another gouache, this must be the only original. One day, when we are in Paris for a little longer, I hope to have the opportunity to see it, and for once I will be an expert for my own works [...]"
