Signed autograph letter addressed to Henriette and André
GOMÈS [S.l.], December 4, 1944, 1 page in-4 in ink. (Small stains without damage to the text, slight discoloration of the paper).
Exceptional autograph letter signed by Brauner about the loss of his eye and its consequence on his art.
Brauner describes it to his friends as a momentous occasion: "which by the loss of my left eye is the pivotal event in my life, in my painting and perhaps in surrealism". I painted and drew what had to happen! This is a unique fact in history".
Indeed, in 1931, Brauner had executed his Self-Portrait which represents him with a punctured right eye. A premonition that was fulfilled in a brawl several years later with Oscar Dominguez.
