Originally the cardboard of this tapestry, created in 1924, was enclosed in a modernist metal screen made by Pierre Chareau and exhibited in Paris in 1925 for the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts of 1925.
Our tapestry, dated 1931, is the only other known to this day of this Louis Valtat's cardboard box.
We find Pierre Chareau's screen in an exhibition at the Cité internationale de la tapisserie d'Aubusson.
