BUST OF THE BODHISATTVA AVALOKITESHVARA
Probable work from Indochina and a School of Fine or Applied Arts, circa 1920 / 1930
Bronze with green or even green-grey patina
Attached to a wooden base
H (including base): 46 cm - H (excluding base): 36 cm
(Wooden base cracks)
Note: One could think here of a copy of a 13th century bust in the Bayon style. Some may recognize the features of the sovereign Jayavarman VII. One could also imagine that this work was made by a Vietnamese artist who came to Paris and surveyed the rooms of the Guimet Museum. In fact, as an example, we know how much influence the Khmer statuary of the National Museum of Asian Arts had on the artist Vu Cao Dam in the design of his busts.
A VERDIGRIS PATINA BRONZE BUST OF THE BODHISATTVA AVALOKITESHVARA, POSSIBLY A PORTAIT OF JAYAVARMAN VII
Possibly Indochina by a School of Fine Arts or of Applied Arts, Circa 1920 / 1930
