BRONZE SUBJECT WITH THE EFFIGY OF A BUDDHIST MONK IN THE SPIRIT OF LÊ TUC
Vietnam, perhaps from the Hanoi School of Applied Arts, 20th century
The Buddhist monk is given to sit in padmasana on a circular terrace. He wears a thick tunic and a crown-like headdress. He is immersed in prayer, reads the prayer book at his feet, holds his left hand on his chin and holds a mallet in his right hand with which he rings a bell.
Note: The book appears to be inscribed "南魚負世音昔薩" (reading and transcription not guaranteed), with the last ideogram, "tát", meaning "Bodhisattva".
