(ATLAS) JULIAN. Universal Atlas of Ancient and Modern Geography, divided into two volumes. TOME PREMIER containing Ancient Geography, general maps of the four parts of the world, & general & particular maps of Spain & Portugal, France & Netherlands, British Isles, Dannemarck, Norway & Sweden, Russia of Europe & Asia, Poland & Prussia, States of Hungary & Turkey of Europe. TOME SECOND, containing Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Asia, Africa & America. Drawn up by Mr. Julien. Paris: Hôtel de Soubise, March 20, 1767. 2 volumes fort et grand in folio. Composite atlas assembled by the bookseller / map dealer Julien from the best existing maps, with a handwritten table in each volume specifying the price of each map. It contains a total of 163 maps, almost all double-page and generally colored in outline. Used period binder in marbled calf, spine with eight raised bands. The lower margin of the first volume rarely reaches the engraving trough, and the upper margin of the second volume at the gutter level, barely touching the engraving on some cards. Apart from this defect, the maps are in a good state of freshness. Detail of the cards as follows: Volume I: Ancient Geography 14 maps (D'Anville and Robert, 1750-65). Modern geography: General maps and world maps 16 maps (Robert, D'Anville, Delisle, etc.).); general maps of the states of Europe: Spain and Portugal 31 maps (Robert, Zanonni, Bailleul, Nolin, D'Anville, Roussel, Beaurain, Baudrand) including the general map of the Pyrenees in 8 sheets by Roussel, ca 1730, and the beautiful map of Catalonia and Roussillon by Baudrand, 1762; France and the Netherlands 8 maps; British Isles and northern countries 8 maps; Russia, Poland and Turkey 9 maps.
