L.A.S. "John S. Sargent", Chelsea March 29 [1922?], to Sir Philip SASSOON; 4 pages in-8 at his address; in English.
He asks where he is, and whether he is being treated properly, or whether like other prisoners in Morocco he does not have to sit with his hands outstretched between the bars of his prison, waiting for food from passers-by.... He has a vision of Karsawina bringing him sandwiches and vodka.
He received the postcard from Toledo, still warm from the sunlight when it arrived during a snowstorm, and the delicious Tiepolo too. He sent the Arras de Sassoon to the Academy... He booked cabins for himself, his sister and his niece on the Olympia, leaving on April 12. It is not easy to get permission for the ladies to travel, but he put forward reasons of national importance, and Mr. Hunter did the same for himself and Elizabeth.
He told framer C.M. May, from Soho, who is taking his paintings to the Academy, to deliver the Arras at the end of the exhibition at 25 Park Lane, as he himself will certainly not be back by that time .
