FANTIN LATOUR (Henri), born in Grenoble on January 14, 1836 and died in Buré on August 25, 1904, realist and intimate painter, French lithographer. Set of fifteen letters written between 1892 and 1902, addressed to Germain HEDIARD, 39, rue Claude Bernard, in Paris. Art historian and journalist, born in 1852, he is the author, among other monographs, of a work devoted to the lithographic work of Fantin Latour, published in 1892. All of them are written by Buré, in the Orne, the commune in which the artist's summer house was located. - July 6, 1902, 4 pp in 8°: "the two Delacroix where there is wash are quite remarkable as well as the interiors of the studio I am preparing the Chénier suite". - July 22nd (18)92, 3 pp in 8° : " Dear Sir, I have just received the Artist and read the second part of your prelude and I want to tell you how much pleasure I had in rereading it ". - 25 July (18)92, 2 pp in 8° : " Thank you for having thought of putting a note on the purchase from the Fine Arts Department This painting was bought without telling me. Maitre will be able to tell you the whole story of the purchase, and you will see how one enters Luxembourg in spite of oneself. The Purchase of the City of Paris is much more pleasant for me. It is a painting according to my heart". Fantin Latour encloses with his letter the handwritten extract of the Artist, from Hédiard's hand, in which he specifies that it is the important painting "Un atelier aux Batignolles", hung at the time of the purchase at the Musée du Luxembourg, and today at the Musée d'Orsay.
