PICOT, engraver The assault of fencing match which took place between Mademoiselle la Chevalière D'Eon de Beaumont and Monsieur de Saint George on the 9th of April 1787 51 x 51 cm. Engraving under glass, wooden frame. B.E. (tasks) History: The engraving is based on the painting by Alexandre-Auguste Robineau, "The fencing-match between the Chevalier de Saint-George and the Chevalier d'Éon" which represents the fight between the two knights who took place at Carlton House on the 9th of April 1787 at the request of the Prince of Wales, Georges Auguste de Hanover, future George IV. Despite the embarrassment of his women's clothing, the Knight of Eon touched the Knight of St. George seven times and his victory established his reputation as a fencer. The original painting was made at the request of the Prince of Wales to immortalize the event.
