Jules Arsène GARNIER (1847-1889) after Pierre-Charles COMTE (1823-1895) The meeting of Henri III and the Duke of Guise. Oil on canvas. Height 32 cm, Width 48 cm.
The original composition, signed by Pierre-Charles COMTE is kept at the Musée d'Orsay. This large format ( H. 130 cm, W. 195 cm) on deposit at the museum of the Château de Blois, was the object of study of our artist, himself inspired by historicist subjects. Our version is dated 1879, the original was presented at the Universal Exhibition held in Paris in 1855.
