Saint Nicholas the Thâmaturge
Icon of Russian origin, first half of the XVIIIth c.
The Saint is represented in front, in bust, blessing with his right hand, and holding the Book of Gospels with his left hand. His chasuble is covered with an omophorion adorned with a cross. Christ and the Virgin surround him in the upper corners of the composition.
The background is covered with silver leaf.
The central part of the icon is in a good state of conservation, it has two masking of lacunae under the blessing hand and in the right corner. The levkas has a fine network of cracks and wear and tear on the pictorial foil, especially on the Saint's clothing. The faces are very finely painted, in the classical style of central Russia.
There are lacunae and masking around the edges.
Good overall structural condition. Sound support.
