Mathieu DOUZENEL Monuments de chagrin, Hkb Ecqueville - Ecqueville (76), n°1/5 Year of production: 2018 Material: photograph framed under glass Dimensions: 70 x 90 cm Biography, presentation of artistic approach: Born on 17 November 1977 in Mont-Saint-Aignan, Mathieu Douzenel lives and works in Gueutteville-les-Grès. Mathieu Douzenel proposes here a part of his photographic work which follows the route of the Atlantic Wall from the Belgian border to Spain. By resisting time, the blockhouses reinvent the coastal landscape and like a string of altars, these erected steles scanning the open sea or lost, buried in the middle of hostile brambles, look like imperturbable lookouts. These monstrous and mysterious architectures endowed with animal, vegetable and mineral strength can evoke a mythological landscape of fury. The blockhouses also take on a romantic aspect when they are covered with wild grasses; they become ruins, remnants of the past. One can imagine the gaze of man and child attentive, fighting, hunted, frightened, victim, anonymous and dreamy also in these landscapes. The gaze of the human being yesterday and here today. Crossing these places like museums of Man. We connect the great History and our personal history. Physical perception of this mass of men, immense, fighting, and of the solitude in the cold of these concrete walls looking at the sea... It is the archaeology of the intimate in the heart of these monuments of sorrow... Website: http:/ /www.mathieudouzenel.com Location of the work: Rouen - Availability of the work: May 2020
