Biography, presentation of the artistic approach:
Rémy Marlot was born in 1972, Ariane Chopard was born in 1974, they live and work in Paris.
The Marlot & Chopard studio is a duo of French photographers and video artists who have been working together since 1996 on issues of landscape, natural or urban, architectural heritage, but also dreams and night.
The work of Studio Marlot & Chopard consists mainly in the creation of phantasmagorical territories, playing through the composition of the series both on the reconstruction of imaginary places and on the juxtaposition of temporal strata whose unity is above all aesthetic. Always travelling through new territories without preconceived ideas or retracing their steps, they essentially seek the emotion produced by the unexpected encounter with the strangeness of a place and its resonance with their own references, which is what makes it so beautiful. Their images are in fact nourished by multiple references to other arts, be it painting, sculpture, cinema or music for videos, but also by more anecdotal personal references that together, throughout the works, draw a life path as well as a way of being and thinking that evolves through encounters and the hazards of existence. Fixing the image is also a way of restoring the intensity of the encounter, of capturing a moment of grace and rendering it through the photographic object.
