Hélène SOUILLARD Tray of fresh salmon slices and finger rinse, n°1/3 Year of production: 2015-2016 Material: Silicone print, silicone slice of parsley, stainless steel tray, inclusion resin, plastic lemon Dimensions: 30 x 25 cm Biography, presentation of the artistic approach: Born on 28 August 1992 in Rouen, France, Hélène Souillard lives and works in Le Havre. The art of cooking and presenting fake French food. Since her discovery of the book l'Art Culinaire Français by our great masters (Flammarion 1950), Hélène Souillard has been interested in the outdated aesthetics of suggestions for gastronomic presentations. The culinary iconographic style of the time was characterized by an "overflow" - too much food, too much decoration, too much seasoning - as an exuberant sign of a society that discovered abundance at the beginning of the Glorious Thirties. The artist then decides to explore this iconography where seduction and bad taste are mixed, and updates it through videos, collages and sculptures. For her, who claims to be a vegetarian, the jubilation of taste is above all visual; and it is by tasting "with the eyes" that the viewer explores her works, from the saliva in the corner of the eyes. Because, to go through an exhibition by Hélène Souillard is a bit like being invited to dinner at the Adams family home, you can sense that it's not going to be quite normal, that what you're going to have on your plate will still wriggle around a bit, but you stay; hypnotized by the show.
