Biography, presentation of artistic approach:
Born on 27 July 1973 in Rouen, Guillaume Montier lives and works in Sotteville-lès-Rouen.
"The particularity of painting is situated in the space between intention and incarnation, between what one imagines to paint and what is finally produced on the canvas. All the changes of direction and all the hesitations contain in them the time that has passed. The painted work bears the stigmata, the intimate vibration; what sings in the painting. By clearing the path that I open by painting I look in the direction where the shadow seems to be born, towards this foliage that has moved, this cloud that takes on a golden hue, I can dissect my relationship to the world through the prisms of history, anthropology or cosmology. I can probe what the world gives me to see and conceive of our relationship to the world as intrinsically luminous.
How can I bring body and nature together in such a way that they are mutualized? How do I arrive at the form that will make body and nature vibrate within the work? From what source of light can the transfiguration be nourished? My research today, whatever the techniques used (painting, charcoal, cyanotype), is nourished by these questions. They involve this mysterious vibration, this physical amplification proper to resonance by making light the source, the subject and the incarnation of the nature of things. Giving the skin its function as foliage that captures the photon and giving the rock the feeling that could transfigure it. Clarify the fleeting punctuality of the star and the eternal sparkle of being. "
