Akira INUMARU Botanical / Saxofraga rotundifolia B Year of production: 2019 Material: media mix on canvas Dimensions: 92 x 92 cm Biography, presentation of artistic approach: Born on 20 April 1984 in Ibaraki, Japan, Akira Inumaru lives in Rouen and works in Rouen and Paris. In this last series of works entitled Botany, Akira Inumaru takes a new step in his artistic and initiatory path. He temporarily puts aside the technique of solar distillation which he had created and tamed, but which required him to carefully control the artistic gesture. He also freed himself from drawing and pencil, which required him to control the direction of his hand at all times and to work intensively on the surface. He also gradually changed his medium. He began to put aside the paper to use the canvas, which reacts differently to colour. His goal is the quest for light. In the Botanical series, the quest for light is done directly through colour. The artist plunges into chromaticism by using fluorescent paint, glitter, metallic pigment paint. These are basically flat materials. They reflect the light in a homogeneous way, which can be very decorative. Akira works to create a floating and dynamic space for them with an effect of depth. To achieve this, he mixes and integrates light and shadow in the same color. Whereas in the Solar Distillations, with fire, the artist made the light appear by piercing the paper as if it were hidden behind; in the Botanical series, this radiant energy comes to the surface. This time, the force of transformation is not fire but water, source of life and expansion. Light and shadow are mixed, they are two aspects of the same substance.
