Nevers : Exceptional pair of earthenware dogs with blue background and "candle" decoration painted in fixed white. The technique known as "with the candle" consists in depositing and or projecting drops of white enamel on the plain blue enamel background. In Nevers, according to Mr. Jean Rosen, a great specialist in Nevers earthenware, "Statues made using this technique are quite rare..." (in: "Nevers earthenware 1585-1900. Tome 2 : The Golden Age of the 17th century ", Ed. Faton 2009, p 289). Currently, only the "Water Bearer" is known / published. This 24 cm high statuette, part of the collections of the Frédéric-Blandin Museum in Nevers, shows a young woman wearing a long dress with a tight bodice, her long hair untied, carrying two buckets. Period : 1660-1680 Ht : 32 cm Condition : no restoration, ginning
