Orhon Mübin
Orhon Mübin was a Turkish artist born in Istanbul. He went to Paris in 1947 to study Political Science at the Sorbonne. While taking drawing classes at the same time, he met figures of the post-war Paris art scene, including Poliakoff, Messagier and Atlan. Seeking spontaneity and emotion in his painting, he turned to expressionism and lyrical abstraction. His first solo show was staged by the Iris Clert gallery in 1956, and this was the start of an uninterrupted series of international exhibitions in Europe, Turkey, the US and Brazil.
The work presented for sale today is dated from this period: 1956. In this painting, the play on gradations and shades of grey and brown enlivened by touches of white suggests a dynamic and skilful hand.
