The creation of the Colonial Medal in July 1893 supplanted the project of a specific commemorative medal for the Sudan campaign. However, it was not until 22 February 1896 that a "Senegal-Sudan" clasp was created, to be worn on the ribbon of the Colonial Medal and to reward, with a large retroactive effect, soldiers who had taken part in the operations led by France in this area of
West
Africa
.
Our medal, although not nominative, was probably given to a Sudanese auxiliary of the French troops.
