Chronica Hungarorum, the most extensive work of the 15th century about Hungary, and the first chronicle of Hungary written by a layman. He was taught in the Premonstratensian monastery of Ipolyság (today Sahy, Slovakia), where he studied Latin and law. In 1465 he moved to Buda, where he later worked at the royal court as a notary by Stephen Báthory. He started his Chronica Hungarorum after 29 July 1485, the first edition was printed in 1488 by Stahel u. Preunlein in Brno/Moravia. The German first edition of the present first edition is by Hans Haug zum Freystein, who also added some recent events, for example the devastating battle of Mohács (1526), which not only opened Hungary to the Turks, but also ended Hungary's independence for almost 400 years. It should also be mentioned that the translator shortened the original text by Thurocz. - Am ob.
