SALOME RECEIVES THE MAIN JOHN oil on wood. Parquet blocks removed. 47.5 x 62.5 cm. Verso old printed sticker of an exhibition or catalogue. In iconographically rare manner the decapitation scene is presented here in realistic drastic: In the centre, in front of a numerous gathering of curious people, there is not Salome but the executioner himself, who, with bare shoulder and sword still in his hand, hands her head, which she receives on a plate positioned on the right. The decapitated body in the centre on the ground facing the viewer. Particularly striking are the curious grimacing faces, as they are traditionally still preserved from the panel painting of the previous century. (1221671) (11)
