RIVERLANDSHIPS WITH FIGURES
Oil on canvas. Doubled.
Each 36 x 50 cm.
At a shimmering river course an old Italian town with high bell tower. In the foreground a wide riverbank landscape with rocks and a bricked pillar on which a large bowl with a plant stands. Below this pillar a young couple in love in conversation. Further staffage figures enliven this representation, under a high light blue sky with white elongated cloud formations.
The second painting shows a broad river meandering from the horizon to the right side of the picture, with numerous buildings to the left and right of the bank. In the foreground, the wide, overgrown bank with a shepherd couple with sheep. On the left a high tree jutting into the picture and a hut from whose chimney smoke is coming out. In the background a high mountainous landscape and the high light blue sky, whose first yellowish discolourations announce the approaching sunrise. Minor frame damage. (12111820) (3) (18)
