THE HOLY FAMILY WITH JOHANNES THE DEPTH
oil on three wooden boards mounted together.
105 x 78 cm.
In magnificently carved, partially gilded aedicular frame.
In a stone interior the Virgin Mary in red robe and blue overgarment, holding the blond curly naked Jesus boy in her arms. She has finely braided blond hair, a veil and a golden nimbus around her head. Christ has turned to the little boy John, who is holding a cross-rod in his left hand, has curly hair, a nimbus around his head, and Jesus is holding a banner with his right hand on which individual words are recognizable. On the left behind the group is Joseph with dark hair, a full beard and a brown cloak, looking at the group. In the background on the right is a view of the open countryside with a temple-like building. Fine, sensitive painting, particularly noticeable the well-formed face of Mary with narrow lips, slightly lowered eyes and downward looking gaze, in addition her delicate right hand with fine long fingers. Painting in restrained colours in soft tones. Retouching.
The continuous framing on both sides with plastic volutes, partly slightly curled, and one female figure each on a plinth, partly gilded. The upper edge of the frame in the centre with a putto with golden hair and garlands of fruit and leaves running to the side. The lower border with a pedestal vase and laterally stretched curled volutes. Rest. Condition in keeping with age. (1220783) (3) (18)
