PANEL WITH PICTURE OF THE HOLY PETRUS oil on wood, closed in a semicircle at the top. Parquetry fixing strips on verso. 94 x 64 cm. In gilded round-arched frame. St. Peter in half-length figure in front of an almost black background, the head posture to the right, the serious gaze, however, directed towards the observer, so that the sharp eye is deliberately positioned in the axis of the central vertical. The right hand raised holds two "sky keys", the left arm lowered. The colourfulness of green doublet and a bright cardinal red of the cloak that shines almost out of itself points to the mannerism of the epoch, as it developed after Raphael's death in 1520 to around 1600. The effects of bright dress colours can be traced back to Jacopo da Carucci Pontormo (1494-1556/ 57) and Giovanni Battista di Jacopo di Guasparre Rosso (1494-1540). These painters also share the model of Andrea del Sarto (1486-1530/ 31). The master of the present painting is probably also to be found in the circle of workshops and successors of the artists mentioned. (12220919) (11) Painter of the Italian High Renaissance PANEL PAINTING WITH DEPICTION OF SAINT PETER Oil on panel, semi-circular top edge. Parquetting slats on the reverse. 94 x 64 cm. In applies semi-circular round-arched frame. Half-length depiction of Saint Peter against a virtually black background. The colours of the green waistcoat and the almost luminous light cardinal red of the cloak suggest the Mannerism which developed after the death of Raphael in 1520 to ca. 1600 The effects of the luminous colours of the clothes also trace back to Jacopo da Carucci Pontormo (1494 - 1556/57) and Giovanni Battista di Jacopo di Guasparre Rosso (1494 - 1540). Andrea del Sarto (1486 - 1530/31) was also a paragon for these painters. The artist of the painting on offer for sale in this lot may also be found in the workshop or following of these artists.
