THE MADONNA WITH THE CHILD AND THE HOLY FRANCISCOUS IN CLOUDS Oil on copper plate. 39 x 30,5 cm. In decorative frame. Madonna in red robe and long wrinkled coat sitting on a cloud, holding the naked blond Jesus boy on a white sheet in her lap. In front of an otherwise beige-brown background she is surrounded by numerous putti hiding behind and between clouds on the upper left side or sitting on a large cloud on the lower right side in a threesome, holding a ray cross on which the word "CARITA(S)" can be read. On the left, in front of her, St. Francis in a brown monk's habit, holding a long staff in his left arm, his left hand with his delicate long fingers stretched out towards the Madonna, while he clutches his right hand to her breast. He looks reverently at the Madonna, who returns his gaze, as does the Child Jesus with his arms stretched out. The word Caritas refers directly to the charity and Christian charity of the Saint.
